Journalist Gini Hunter is sent to New York to interview movie actress Natasha Lawrence. She probes unsuccessfully for answers to the central mysteries in Lawrence's life - the stalker who has plagued her for the last five years, the break-up of her marriage to American film director Tomas Court, the fact that despite this she still intends to act in his next film, the first he will direct in England. eanwhile, in London, Gini's friend Lindsay Drummond is trying to forget her unrequited love for Rowland McGuire. Visiting her son in Oxford she meets an old friend of Rowland's, Colin Lascelles, now working as the location manager on Tomas Court's forthcoming film.
